Training on Human Trafficking

HUMAN TRAFFICKING TRAINING FOR LAW ENFORCEMENT AND SERVICE PROVIDERS
Human trafficking is a 39 billion dollar business--that's bigger than McDonald's, Google and Nike combined--and it is happening around the world and in all parts of the United States.
It was not until 2000 that a Federal law to protect trafficking victims existed. That law, the Trafficking
Victims Protection Act (TVPA) and other new state and local laws are making it easier to prosecute traffickers.

What remains difficult, however, is identifying, rescuing and protecting victims. Stereotypes of what victims and perpetrators look like and how they operate make it difficult to see what might be hiding in plain sight. Training for law enforcement and service providers is essential.

During a typical training session, we discuss:
  • Scope of the problem
  • Myths about domestic human trafficking
  • Federal and local trafficking laws
  • Risk Factors for Victimization and the Role of Vulnerability
  • Pimp/ Trafficker Control
  • Effective Response to Victims
  • Identifying Signs of Trafficking
  • Resources/ Referrals
